Introduction
This project demonstrates how to build an automated rain-sensing laundry protector using an Arduino microcontroller and a rain sensor module. The system is designed to automatically detect rain and retract or protect outdoor laundry before it gets wet.
Connections
The hardware setup requires wiring the rain sensor, motor/servo mechanism, and the Arduino board:
Rain sensor
- Do – D2 Pin of arduino
- GND – GND Pin of arduino
- Vcc – 5v Pin of arduino
Servo
- Signal or Orange pin – D9 Pin of Arduino
- Red to 5V pin of arduino
- Brown to Gnd pin of arduino
Working
The project operates through real-time environmental monitoring and automated mechanical response:
- Rain Detection: The rain sensor module features a conductive sensing pad that detects moisture; when raindrops land on the surface, electrical conductivity changes.
- Signal Processing: The Arduino continuously monitors the sensor’s output signal to determine whether precipitation is present.
- Automated Trigger: Once moisture exceeds a set threshold, the microcontroller triggers an automated response, activating a motor or servo to move the laundry out of the rain or sound an alert.
- Reset State: When the rain stops and the sensor dries out, the system returns to its standby monitoring position.
