Introduction
This project demonstrates how to build a DIY motion detection security system using an Arduino microcontroller and a Passive Infrared (PIR) motion sensor paired with a buzzer. The system is designed to detect human or animal movement in a monitored area and trigger an immediate audible alert.
Connections
The hardware setup requires straightforward wiring between the PIR sensor, buzzer, and the Arduino board:
- PIR Sensor VCC: Connects to the Arduino’s 5V pin.
- PIR Sensor GND: Connects to GND.
- PIR Sensor OUT: Connects to a digital input pin on the Arduino (e.g., Digital Pin 2).
- Buzzer Positive (+): Connects to a designated digital output pin on the Arduino (e.g., Digital Pin 8).
- Buzzer Negative (-): Connects to GND.
- Button switch connected to D3 and GND
- LED connected to D8 And GND
Working
The project operates through continuous environmental monitoring and microcontroller logic:
- Infrared Detection: The PIR sensor scans for changes in infrared radiation levels within its field of view, which typically happen when a person or warm-blooded animal moves across the sensor’s range.
- Signal Transmission: When motion is detected, the PIR sensor sends a high digital signal output to the Arduino input pin.
- Microcontroller Processing: The Arduino continuously monitors the PIR sensor’s output state. Upon receiving the high signal, it executes programmed logic to activate the output pin connected to the buzzer.
- Alarm Trigger: The buzzer sounds an alert to signal that movement has been detected in the protected zone, and resets once the motion ceases or the sensor’s trigger delay expires.
